Novice Drivers

New Driver
At Caremotoring, we do not stop our relationship with our puplis once they have passed their driving test.  On the contrary, the first 2 years after passing the test are vital, with the New Drivers’ Act effectively putting you on probation for that period of time: should you accumulate 6 or more points in the first 2 years after passing your test, then you will find yourself having to go through the whole learner driver process again!  For that reason, your CareLearner course continues to give you access to the e-learning progamme for up to 2 years after you pass your test.

Some learners will find they do not need to use all of their 40 hours on-road training to reach test standard, and are therefore able to use some of these hours for further training on our ‘DIAmond Plus’ course.  DIAmond Plus is an amalgamation of Pass Plus and the DIAmond Advanced Motorist test: the training incorporates all the DSA elements of Pass Plus, so that successful completion of this course leads to you obtaining your Pass Plus certificate.  In addition, however, the on-road training is designed to take you to a higher level of driving skill, developing the skills of a thinking driver begun with the e-learning program during the learner phase, and training you to sit the DIAmond Advanced Motorist test, something you can proudly add to your CV and which will most certainly have a positive effect on prospective employers’ opinions of you!

The course comprises classroom presentation and discussion, together with on-road training.  The classroom sessions focus on the following aspects:

  • night driving and all weather driving, including skid avoidance techniques.
  • journey choices and risk assessment.
  • map reading skills (your sat-nav may let you down!)
  • maintaining a safe and legal vehicle.
  • raising awareness of the risk-increasing factors in driving: alcohol and drugs; peer pressure; illness and fatigue; anger, stress, worry, upset and running late; simply being young and reckless!
  • eco-driving: how to reduce your motoring costs without sacrificing progress.

On-road training focuses particularly on motorway driving but also includes driving in an unfamiliar town, following directional signs, and rural driving.  There is a strong emphasis on defensive driving techniques, including good awareness and planning and effective observational skills, as well as the ability to assess the likely effects of adverse road and weather conditions.

On-road training is given on a 2 client to 1 instructor basis, which is not only a very effective form of training at this stage, but also helps to keep the cost down to a very competitive price.  Although we believe you cannot put a price on life, we also recognise that training such as this must be open to all and not confined to the few who can afford it.  Training takes place at weekends and during school/university holidays.
