Instructor Training
Would you like to train to be a driving instructor? There are many reasons why you might make this decision:
- you love driving and enjoy being with people
- you’ve been made redundant and are looking for something different
- your life is going through change and you’d now like to take the plunge to do something different with your life
- after years of being employed, you feel you’d now like to be your own boss
- you have a part-time job and would like to boost your income with something flexible
- you have not worked for a number of years, having stayed home to raise your family, and now want to do something for yourself
- your partner is the main bread-winner, but you’d like to work too and need a job with flexible working hours so you can fit in with each other
- you need a job you can do around your commitments to your children
In fact the list is endless, all very good reasons, but most crucially, the first reason must apply in every case. Clearly you must like people as you’ll be working one-to-one in a confined environment, and driving must be something you enjoy, not just something you believe you’re good at and could therefore teach. You must also be able to take criticism because, no matter how long you’ve been driving, accident-free, you will have driver faults which will need addressing, and this takes effort and determination on your part. And of course you must learn to stick rigidly to the rules of the road (no drifting ‘just a little bit’ above the speed limit, which you might find hard if the guy behind seems to be trying to make you go faster!).
By now you may be thinking you’ve not read anything like this on other sites - they all tell you how much you can earn, seem to imply you are guaranteed to succeed and also guarantee you a job at the end of it all. Here at Care Motoring we pride ourselves on being different, by always having our pupils’ and trainees’ best interests at heart, by being open, honest and totally ‘up-front’. If you want to train to be a driving instructor we want you to do it for the right reasons, not because you have the false belief you can earn pots of money for very little effort, because it really isn’t like that. It is perhaps one of the most personally rewarding jobs you could ever do and yes, there is good earning potential, but that will take time and a lot of effort, like all good things.
So, you still think you’d like to train as a driving instructor, and you want to know how we will train you? Well, as you might expect, we ‘do different’, as they say here in Norfolk. Currently our training is only available for people in the Norfolk area (unless you are prepared to travel, of course), so you will know all your training is totally local and we are always on hand to help. You will have 2 of us involved in your training: Jackie will train you for the part 2 (driving) and Matthew will teach you all the requirements necessary to teach in-car and guide you as to the format of the part 3 test. Our approach is to give this training concurrently, depending of course on your availability, whilst you study privately for the part 1 (theory), using the books provided by us, and with us both on hand to advise whenever needed. The things you will be learning for your theory test will, in any case, be woven into the training given by both Jackie and Matthew. The cost for all of this is most certainly not cheap - you will be allocated 20 hours for the part 2 training and 40 for the part 3, standard practice (although companies offering apparently cheaper training can do so as their in-car training is 2-to-1) - but we do promise to keep our costs competitive, whilst maintaining the highest standard to help you achieve your ambition. We do not give any guarantees of a job at the end of your training, but we will help to provide you with your first pupils and advise on setting up your own business. We will also advise you on your options of joining a driving school franchise, there are plenty around, which is why driver training establishments can ‘guarantee’ you a job at the end. If you decide to ‘go-it-alone’ and set up your own business, then we will automatically put you on our list of available instructors, unless you ask us not to. So, we promise to offer you lots of opportunities and lots of advice, but no guarantees, just down-to-earth honesty!
