The CareLearner Programme
Our programme for learner drivers is a very complete one, enabling you to learn in-car as you would normally expect to do, in order to guide you to test readiness. If you are able to have practice sessions between lessons with a parent, relative or friend (they must be over 21 and have held a car licence for at least 3 years), and we highly recommend that you do, then that person receives support from us to be able to give you the best possible practice.
You will be given a copy of ‘Perfect Partner’, an excellent resource for you and your accompanying driver, produced by Lancashire County Council’s Road Safety Group, which will guide you through every step of your learning together, as well as give you tips on how to avoid conflict with each other!
One of the problems often stated by learner drivers for not being able to have any private practice is the problem of insurance, either the expense or the vehicle owner not being willing to have the learner added to their policy. And for many there is the question of paying out for something they will only be able to use for a limited time during the year due to going away to university or for work commitments. These issues have been addressed by ‘Click the Pepper’ insurance - click on the logo to find out more (opens in a separate window).
At Caremotoring we believe learner drivers can be taught the skills of experienced drivers, those skills traditionally associated with ‘learning to drive after passing the driving test’. We believe the time has long since passed to ditch this notion - the appalling crash statistics for novice drivers is proof of this fact. We recognise that all good driving instructors attempt to teach these skills during their lessons, but the pressure of everything else for the learner to concentrate on makes this an inefficient method of teaching. For this reason, we are very pleased to be able to include in our course a BTEC Intermediate Award in Driving Science, developed by A2om (www.a2om.com), to whom we are proud to be affiliated, and accredited by the EdExcel exam board. This is a vocational qualification, equivalent to a GCSE, and covers areas of driving not covered by the driving test, but which are the essential skills needed when you start driving alone. One of the first skills you will develop is that of eye scanning, through which you will develop better observational skills because you will understand exactly where to look and what you will be looking for. Following road traffic collisions, during crash investigations, the conclusion so often reached as to the reason for the crash, is ‘driver failed to look’. We believe this statement to be fundamentally flawed - how does anyone actually know the driver failed to look? Drivers do look, but so often fail to see through lack of understanding about exactly what they should expect to see and where they should be observing. Our CareLearner course, together with the BTEC, will ensure you are equipped with this higher level of understanding so you truly understand the meaning of ‘Safe Driving for Life’.
The CareLearner course does not stop with the driving test as the final module of the BTEC course cannot be completed until after the driving test has been passed, ensuring your safety during the critical first 500 miles of your solo driving, and reassuring both employers and insurers that you have taken your driving skills beyond driving test level. Completion of this course will not only put you amongst the elite of British drivers, but it will also make a very positive addition to your CV for future employers!
So, if you care about your safety, about confidently enjoying driving in the knowledge that you have the driver thinking skills to remain safe on the road, then it makes sense to learn to drive with Caremotoring.
Because we care
